What is Botulinum Toxin?
Type A Botulinum Toxin is simply a muscle relaxant. It is a highly purified protein which relaxes the facial muscles and reduces expression lines. This toxin works by blocking nerve impulses, which reduces the amount of contraction made by muscles. The surface of the skin gradually smoothes out, and the unaesthetic expression lines begin to disappear.
Botulinum Toxin Applications
Very low doses of Botulinum Toxin are administered using a very thin needle, in the facial muscles which are most active, in order to relax them, soften them out and avoid the appearance of expression lines. However, it is of vital importance that the aesthetician has the knowledge to be able to correctly administer this toxin and assess each individual patient’s case. This will determine whether the result is natural or not.
The administration of Botulinum Toxin does not require the use of anaesthetic or any previous allergy tests. It is not a painful treatment due to the fact that the injections are performed using an extremely thin needle to administer small doses.
Duration of the effects
The results can be seen after the third day of the injections and the effects of the toxin last between 4 and 6 months. The more Toxin that is applied, the better the effect and the results. It is an outpatient procedure which leaves no scarring and no bruising, so the patient can continue with a normal life as soon as these are applied.

Botulinum Toxin
